Error code F6
Appliance Range

Which F6 applies to you

On 721-prefix Elite ranges, both electric and double-oven gas, F6 reports an upper oven above 650 degrees F in bake or broil. On a 362 freestanding range the same code reports a defective electronic control board.

The 721 path

Unplug the range, then decide which situation fits.

  • Oven cold, code showing: test the upper oven sensor against 1,090 ohms at 77 degrees F. A sensor over 100 ohms off is replaced.
  • Oven truly overheating: expect to replace the oven control board, because a relay stuck on it keeps the heat running.

The 362 path

Pull the plug, give it 3 minutes, then restore power. If F6 comes back, the board is replaced.

An oven that is really overheating should not be used. Testing and board replacement are for a technician.

Related Kenmore range codes

  • F60: the oven control board itself is too hot.
  • F6E1: an overheating oven on 664 slide-in ranges.
  • F5: the lower oven sensor on 721 ranges.

Overheating oven service in San Francisco

An overheating Kenmore oven is worth a prompt call to (415) 825-6393 from anywhere in San Francisco or the Bay Area. Have F6, the model series (721 or 362) and whether the oven was cold or hot when the code showed. Kenmore range repair has the service details.

Model compatibility: Kenmore reuses codes across series and model years, so F6 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
