Reading the F3/E1 message

Kenmore 665 model ranges show their faults as an F-code followed by an E-code. F3/E1 on one of them points at the oven’s temperature sensing: either the sensor itself has gone bad, or the circuit it sits in has shorted.

Who does what

  • Owner: cut power by unplugging the range. If the sensor’s wire harness has worked loose, press it back onto its connector.
  • Technician: swaps out a harness that is damaged, reads the sensor’s resistance with a volt/ohm meter, and replaces the sensor. When both the sensor and its connections test fine, the electronic oven control (EOC) is the part that gets replaced.

Anything past reseating a loose connector means working inside the range, which makes it a technician visit.

Other sensor codes to compare

  • F3/E0: the open-circuit version of this same sensor fault.
  • F3/E2: the oven climbing past 575 degrees F in Bake mode.
  • F31: a shorted sensor circuit as worded on other Kenmore range series.

Kenmore range service in San Francisco

Owners across San Francisco and the Bay Area can reach a technician at (415) 825-6393 about F3/E1. Have the code, the 665 model number and a note on whether you reseated the sensor harness ready when you call. Details on the visit are under Kenmore range repair.

Model compatibility: Kenmore reuses codes across series and model years, so F3/E1 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
