Elite 721 ranges, electric and gas

The range is unplugged and a meter is put on the lower sensor. The expected figure is 1,090 ohms at 77 degrees F. A sensor that misses it by more than 100 ohms is replaced. The electric and the double-oven gas models share this test and its limits.

The 362 freestanding range

Unplug the range, disconnect the sensor, and read it with a volt/ohm meter. About 1100 ohms at room temperature is normal. A reading more than 200 ohms away calls for a new sensor, while a normal reading moves the blame to the electronic control board, which is then replaced.

These tests need a meter, so they are technician work. Owners should unplug the range and note which family theirs belongs to.

Codes that get mixed up with F4

  • F5: the same lower-sensor defect on 721 ranges.
  • F3E0: a sensor failure on 664 slide-in ranges.
  • F4/E1: a shorted meat probe rather than an oven sensor.
