Error code F1
Appliance Range

The meaning of F1 changes with the range, so find your series first.

F1 by series

  • Elite 721-prefix electric range and the Elite double-oven gas range, 721 numbers: the upper oven temperature sensor is defective.
  • 362 model freestanding range: the electronic control board is defective.
  • 790-prefix self-cleaning and manual-cleaning freestanding ranges: the oven temperature sensor has failed, or the electronic oven control board has.
  • 665 model range, which shows codes as F-code and E-code pairs: the electronic oven control is defective.

Reset by unplugging

  1. Pull the plug of the range.
  2. Leave it out for 3 minutes on a 362 model, which lets the control board reset, or 30 seconds on a 790-prefix range.
  3. Plug it in again and watch whether F1 comes back.

When F1 returns

The remaining work is for a technician. On the Elite 721 ranges the upper oven sensor is measured and replaced if the resistance is wrong; the sensor should read 1,090 ohms at 77 F, and it is replaced when it is off by more than 100 ohms. The 362 model gets a new electronic control board. On 790 ranges the order is the sensor circuit at the control board, the sensor itself, the wire harness and finally the control board.

Codes often mixed up with F1

  • f18 is the lower oven temperature sensor fault.
  • f15 is an oven control board failure.
  • f16 is a lower oven that senses too much heat.
