F031 and the oven probe
The probe that senses oven temperature in a Kenmore range has failed when F031 appears. The manual gives it together with F030 for 790 freestanding ranges and for Elite slide-in electrics 790.4131, 790.4255 and 790.5256.
Testing the probe
Power to the range is removed.
A multimeter reads the probe resistance. Roughly 1,100 ohms at room temperature is normal.
Anything well off that figure condemns the probe, which is replaced.
Removing power is the safe first move for owners; the meter test is for a technician.
San Francisco and Bay Area owners can reach Kenmore range repair on (415) 825-6393 to have the probe tested. Tell them the code F031, the model number and that power has been disconnected.
Model compatibility: Kenmore reuses codes across series and model years, so F031 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
