Error codeF017
ApplianceRange
F017 comes up on a Kenmore range when the interface board is not able to set up the touch panel. The manual includes it for 790 freestanding ranges and for the Elite electric slide-ins 790.4131, 790.4255 and 790.5256.
Stage one: reset and wiring
Unplug the range, give it half a minute, and plug it back in. If F017 reappears, remove power again and look at the harness connectors running between the touch panel and the interface board. Anything loose is pushed back on; a harness that shows damage is replaced.
Stage two: a recent part swap
Did you or someone else install a board or panel shortly before the code appeared? That component may not suit the range. Compare its part number with the model number.
Stage three: no swap, wiring sound
The interface board is the first part to be swapped.
Fault still showing? Then the touch panel follows.
Elite slide-in literature uses the terms oven user interface control board and touch control panel.
Harness checks and board swaps are easier with a technician on site. Kenmore range repair is available in San Francisco and the Bay Area on (415) 825-6393; have F017, the model number and the result of the power reset ready, plus the part numbers if either board was changed.
Model compatibility: Kenmore reuses codes across series and model years, so F017 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
The user interface board cannot configure the touch panel.
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
