VERIFIED
IE is the not-filling code on Kenmore dishwashers with model numbers beginning 722.146. The tub is not getting water, so the search runs from the household supply toward the control board.
Supply side first
- Make sure the dishwasher’s water supply cut-off valve is open all the way.
- Run a hand along the inlet hose and confirm it is not kinked.
- Unplug the dishwasher, close off the water and detach the hose from the water inlet valve. Examine the filter screen on the valve; if it is clogged, the valve is replaced.
- With the screen clear, aim the hose end into a container and open the cut-off valve for a moment. If nothing comes out, the house water supply needs repair.
Then the dishwasher side
- When water flows well, clear any clog from the inlet guide assembly.
- Check the wiring connections on the inlet valve. The valve is wired to the control board with orange and black wires on connector BL6, and any loose wire should be pushed home.
- A valve that buzzes while the dishwasher tries to fill but never opens should be replaced.
Meter readings left for a technician
The inlet valve should read around 25 ohms; an infinite reading means a new valve. A technician also tests the wires that run from the valve to the electronic control board. If the board is not sending current, the board is the part at fault.
