Error code F20
Appliance Range

One code, several meanings. Match the series of your Kenmore range to the entries below.

721-prefix Elite ranges, electric and double-oven gas

The bottom oven’s door lock has failed. With the range unplugged, two harness runs get inspected, and any loose wire is pushed home:

  • from the motor of the lower door lock over to the relay control board;
  • from the door lock switches over to the main oven board.

Readings are for a technician: a lower door lock motor measures about 2,600 ohms, and an infinite reading means the lock assembly is replaced.

Elite slide-in electric, models 790.4671 and up

Two boards, the oven control and the user interface control, are not talking to each other. Power is disconnected and the wiring between them is examined. When it is sound, the user interface board is the first replacement, and the oven control follows only if F20 returns.

Glass touch freestanding electric range

The link that has failed runs from the oven board to the controls for the cooktop burners. Unplug the range and go over the harness plugs at the cooktop-side parts, for instance the glass panel and the cooktop interface board. Where all is well, the manual asks for a service technician, as live voltage has to be tested.

2014 self-cleaning electric range

Here F20 is a lost link between the electronic oven control and the electronic surface element control.

Compare

  • F23 is a convection fan board communication fault on the glass touch range.
  • F24 is its pair.
  • F19 is the lower oven not heating on Elite 721 ranges.

Kenmore range service in San Francisco

Door lock and board communication faults call for meter work, and Kenmore range repair is the starting point for San Francisco and Bay Area owners. Phone (415) 825-6393 with the model number, which tells a 721 from a 790.4671 or a glass touch range, and with what you already reconnected.

Model compatibility: Kenmore reuses codes across series and model years, so F20 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.

Plain language

What this code means

F20 is a lower oven door lock failure on Elite 721 ranges, or a communication failure between control boards on other series.

Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
