Who sees E1
Model numbers starting with 722.146 identify the Kenmore dishwashers that report E1 for a detected water leak. AE is the same code under another name.
What sets it off
- Circulation pump speed rises abnormally because the water level in the tub is low.
- Water seeps into the cabinet base and trips the flood switch.
The flood switch connects to the control board on NA8 through sky blue and yellow wires.
Working through it
- Pull the plug and turn off the water supply.
- Inspect the base of the cabinet for standing water.
- If there is some, trace where it came from and fix that spot. The manual points to these places: the water fill line, the water inlet guide, the drain pump, the drain hose, the door seals and the sump.
- After the repair, get the water out of the cabinet base.
- Base dry but E1 still showing: a technician uses a multimeter on the flood switch and its wires. Wires shorting together read near 0 ohms and must be found and repaired.
- Clean test results lead to the way the drain hose is set up. Improper installation lets water siphon out of the dishwasher, and the installation guide gives the right layout.
Look-alike codes
- F1E1 is a control module code on different dishwashers.
- F2E1 reports a stuck key or console problem.
- F3E1 means the thermistor or the optical water indicator sensor is failing.
San Francisco repair for a leaking Kenmore dishwasher
An E1 that returns deserves a technician visit in San Francisco and the Bay Area. Call (415) 825-6393 or see Kenmore dishwasher repair, with the code, your model number and a note on what you found in the cabinet base.
Model compatibility: Kenmore reuses codes across series and model years, so E1 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
