Questions we hear most often
These answers cover how our Kenmore repair service works in San Francisco and the Bay Area. If your question is about a particular symptom, the common problems index will take you to a detailed guide.
The technician inspects the appliance, asks what it has been doing, reads any code on the display and tests the parts that could cause the symptom. You then receive the findings and a written estimate. Repair work begins only after you approve it. If the unit cannot be repaired sensibly, we tell you that too.
Yes. The estimate is written and describes the proposed repair. Nothing is repaired until you have read it and said yes, and you may decline without any obligation to continue.
We repair refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, washers, dryers, ranges, cooktops, wall ovens, microwaves and range hoods. The services page lists each family, and every one has its own repair guide.
We work in San Francisco and the wider Bay Area, including San Mateo, Santa Clara, Marin, Alameda, Contra Costa, Napa, Sonoma and Solano counties. Our locations page describes each area and its neighborhoods. If you are not sure your street is covered, send the request and mention where you live.
We are available Monday through Saturday, 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. You can send a request through the contact page at any time, and it will be read when the working day begins.
Look for a label in the usual places: the door frame of a refrigerator, the inside wall of a freezer, the edge of a dishwasher door, the rim of a washer lid or door, the opening of a dryer, or the frame of an oven drawer. Our guide to finding a Kenmore model number shows each location. Write the number down exactly as printed, including every digit, since a single missing character can point to the wrong parts.
Kenmore units that look the same can use different parts, controls and wiring. The full number lets the technician match your unit to the right components and notes before arriving, so the first visit is more productive.
Write the code down exactly as it appears, along with what the appliance was doing at the time. Our error codes page explains the codes we have confirmed meanings for. If the code is not listed or the problem returns after one controlled power reset, a technician should look at it.
What can I safely check myself?
From the outside you can check that the appliance has power, that the breaker has not tripped and the GFCI outlet is reset, that doors and latches close fully, that gaskets and filters are clean and that supply valves are open. You can clear a vent, grille or drain screen, clean a dryer lint screen and check the outside vent flap. Do not open panels, test live circuits, touch gas fittings or bypass switches. Those jobs belong to a technician, who can do them with the right tools and training.
Leave the home at once. Do not use switches, lighters or phones inside. Call the gas utility or 911 from outside. Return only when you are told it is safe, and book a repair afterward.
Turn it off at the breaker straight away and keep clear of it. Do not run it again to see what happens. Send us a request with the model number and a description of what you noticed.
Yes. Many Kenmore appliances stay in daily use for a long time, and some models are no longer sold new. We diagnose them like any other unit and tell you whether a repair is sensible.
Yes. Owners and managers of rental units often book on behalf of tenants. Tell us who can give access, and mention parking or building entry details. The written estimate gives you a clear record of the findings.
That depends on what failed, how the rest of the appliance is holding up and how much you rely on it. After a diagnosis we explain the fault in plain terms and let you weigh it. Our guide on whether to repair or replace a Kenmore appliance sets out the factors.
Yes. Stacked washer and dryer pairs and closet laundry are common in San Francisco. Tell us about the layout when you book, including door widths and any tight turns, so the technician can plan how to reach the machine and its connections safely.
No. We promise a diagnosis first, a written estimate and no repair without your approval. If you want to think it over, you can.
Send the details through the contact page and a technician will help you work out the next step. Include the appliance, the model number if you have it, what the unit is doing and any code on the display, and we will reply with how to proceed. You can also browse the appliance guides while you wait.
